New Year's Day, 2005
It is the first day of the new year, 2005 and as usual, my new year's days tend to be eventful. Hard to put it all in perspective considering the pall that is cast by the constant reminders of the immense tragedy of the tsunami in Asia. Never-the-less, when it is personal, one tends to notice.
New Year's day, 2003 we found my mother-in-law sick and in need of emergency care when Cecil went to bring her a morning coffee. She spent the year in and out of the hospital, in my care and foster care and died on September 3.
New Year's day of 2004 I was away from Cecil and Nathan because of my father's illness in a South Carolina hospital. Needless to say it was a time not of celebration but of worry and concern. Happily, Dad is recovered and looking forward to a new year.
Our New Year's eve was pleasantly spent with friends Janice and Leon in their home but we didn't even manage to make it to midnight before we needed to go home and get some sleep. Nate spent the night with his buddy Jake celebrating with chocolate pie. When we arrived home, I checked on my cat Sara who had been going downhill for a couple of weeks. She was in pretty bad shape, unable to walk but when I came in she dragged herself over to me. I sat on the floor with her and she put both her front paws around my ankle, holding on to me with her head resting on my leg. When she fell asleep, I crawled into bed. She died at 9:20 this morning, New Year's Day and Cecil and I both cried for she had been with us for 16 years. I will miss her spirit, she was my shadow and friend and she loved me unconditionally. No more cats in my life for none can ever replace Sara.
On a happier note, the New York Audubon Society managed to get the residents of the town house in Manhattan to put the nest framework back up for Pale Male and Lola the hawks. They have been on the new nest site, bringing twigs so that is a very good sign that they will nest there again.
Also, today is my sister-in-laws birthday...HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHARI!!! One of the nicest people I have ever known.
I hope the New Year is filled with good things for you all, especially Love and Peace.

Soo
Sara found a wonderful way to pass on. And yes, who can think of another cat after such a loss.
may the year be fruitful for you and the family.
All the best
